Mom & Dad Visit

Mom and Dad came to visit again this summer, and since we'd done all the major sites last summer, we were able to enjoy time together and take in some more off the beaten path sites, even several that we hadn't done yet!

We started their visit at the new Jewel mall of Changi Airport. The upper levels had just opened the week they arrived, so in addition to the impressive waterfall, we checked out the park area and bridge. The park was filled with floral animal creations, flowers, slide, and fog steam vents to play in. The bridge gave an impressive view of the waterfall and the floors below.

 

 

 


Of course, lots of our time was spent swimming in our pool and with the girls just playing with grandma and grandpa. Emmeline loves diving down to the bottom of the big pool now to pick up rings, and Grandma and Grandpa got to watch two of Emmeline's swim lessons.

Some of the Singapore favorites were visited like Sentosa, Chinatown, and Gardens by the Bay. This time we took them in Cloud Forest, and everyone enjoyed it once again. Lots of hawker food was also consumed, in Tiong Bahru, Chinatown, and at Satay by the Bay.

 

 


Grandma Julie was nice enough to put on a music class for our music class friends since our normal teacher in now on maternity leave. All the kids, especially Emmeline and Cora, loved singing and dancing with grandma.

 

We spent lots of time doing our usual things: the library and parks, including the new Fort Canning Park, which was pretty fun with real swings! We also checked out the children's season at National Gallery, which was a fun way to spend a few hours, and the Jurong East water park which had a lazy river and a wave pool!

 

 


The zoo was lots of fun, and both girls got to feed the elephants this time. Emmeline and I checked out the Night Safari with Grandma and Grandpa, and despite how busy it was, we all really liked it! Emmeline's favorite was the tram ride and seeing the tigers, and I really liked seeing the lions. We were able to up pretty close with a lot of the animals walking around on the trails after the tram ride and show.

 

 

 

 


A day spent on Pulau Ubin was a fun day trip too, and it definitely felt like we were in a different southeast Asian country. After a short bumboat ride, we biked through the jungle, saw some locals living in kampongs the way Singapore used to be, stopped for drinks at a local drink stall, watched lots of people cutting down wild durian to eat, walked around the wetlands, and saw tons of monkeys! It was a fun day out and a nice escape from Singapore.

 

 
 

 

We also celebrated Emmeline's and my birthdays a little early with dinner and homemade by cupcakes (made by Grandma and Emmeline). Emmeline was very excited to celebrate her "birthday but not her real birthday". Thanks for a fun few weeks Grandma and Grandpa. We miss you already!!
