Summer Recap

 





It's been a busy summer with visitors and trips, but there's so much we did in Singapore too. It seems like there's some sort of festival or event every weekend, sometimes multiple! We've been trying to take advantage of these opportunities and get out and about.

Kite Festival
Marina Barrage offers a great view of the city, but also kite flying fun. While we've never managed to choose a day with wind to fly our kite, the kite festival was a windy day, perfect to check out all the impressive kites. People from all over the world came to fly kites, but we even got to help fly one that is the longest in the world! It flew from Niagara Falls all the way to Canada!

 

 


Films @ the Fort
While Mom and Dad were here, Nick and I took advnatage of the free babysitters and went to watch a movie at Fort Canning Park. Such a cool venue for an outdoor movie! The movie was an average comedy, but the company and setting was perfect!

 

Night Festival
After reading about this festival, we decided to forgo bedtime and venture out to a few of the sights around the city. We only managed to see a handful of the numerous displays and concerts throughout the city over the weekend, but it was quite impressive. It reminded me a lot of Paris's Nuit Blanche, but stepped up to a whole new level! Emmeline's favorite was the spinning balls, and Nick and I really enjoyed the dueling lightning men. Corabelle slept for most of it, and Emmeline fell asleep toward the end, but they both transferred to bed easily, so win!

 

 

 






Universal Studios-Exxon Family Event
Exxon Singapore hosted a huge family event at Resorts World Sentosa filled with entertainment, food, prizes, and games. We didn't know anyone there, as most of the Exxon Singapore is off-shore people, but it was a fun (but hot) time. At the end of the morning, they gave out free tickets to Universal Studios. Despite the intense heat, we had a good time. There weren't a ton of rides that Emmeline was able to do, but we managed to do almost all of them that she could. The carousel was her favorite, although now when she talks about it, she says the Madagascar boat ride was another favorite. Nick says she had her head down for the majority of this ride, though, as it was dark, so we're hoping she wasn't too scared! The Jurassic Park pterodactyl ride and the Madagascar dance were also part of the fun! Nick and I had fun just walking around the themed park even though we couldn't do any rides with kids in tow. It was a fun way to spend the day, and probably not something we would have otherwise done in Singapore.

Science Centre
One Saturday we decided to check out the science centre with Ryan, Melissa, Ashton, and Lucas. While geared a bit towards older kids in general, it was a very well-done museum with lots of interesting exhibits. Some favorites were the fire tornado, wind exploration, and the hall of mirrors. Even Nick and I were a little concerned we might be lost in the hall of mirrors, ha! Of course, water play is everywhere in Singapore, so it was nice to end the afternoon with a little water fun.

 

 

Zoo & Bird Park
The zoo and bird park are always hits in our house, and we are definitely getting good use out of our annual passes! It seems there's always something new to discover each time we go back. This time we found a huge lizard at the bird park, and really took advantage of the water play area. At the zoo, we found a sloth, bats, and a butterfly garden for the first time, in addition to all of our usual favorites.
