Mom and Dad Visit

 

Mom and Dad came to visit for two weeks, which sounds like a long time, but time seemed to fly by with Emmeline's birthday, school starting, and our trip to Langkawi. We had lots of fun seeing the sights of Singapore in addition to just relaxing and hanging out.
The few days Emmeline was at school, we did some of the "sights" that Emmeline is less of a fan of, including the Botanic Gardens, East Coast Park, and Haji Lane/Arab Street. Despite the high humidity and temps, we still managed to have fun!

 

 

 

 






No visit to Singapore is complete without a visit to Gardens by the Bay, which is also always a huge hit for Emmeline with the splash pad. On this trip, we were surprised to see an otter family playing just off the path. We watched them play, eat, and chase monitor lizards up the trees for a quite a while. Our first otter sighting in Singapore, very cool! Satay by the Bay is, of course, always necessary after the Gardens. I also took them to the light show at Marina Bay Sands and the Supergrove Trees one night. The music and show was different this time than the time I took Kristy, so that was fun for me too!

 

 

 

We also took another water taxi boat ride down the river into the bay to see the sights and the Merlion. We found a cool new view of the bay on top of the Esplande building, which also happened to have a fun, free kids area. Always something new to discover in Singapore, it seems.

  

 


Palawan Pirate Ship and the aquarium on Sentosa were also two of our big outings. The only real rain of their trip cut our time at the pirate ship a bit short, but all in all we got pretty lucky with the weather. Emmeline loved being able to show Grandma and Grandpa all her favorite places!

 

 

 

 


We spent a lot of time playing at home and swimming in the pool, which is always a hit when it's so hot out. It was nice to have some more adult hands to help out with the kids, and Nick and I got to enjoy several evenings out both in Singapore and Langkawi. In Singapore we went to Films at the Fort, a large movie festival held outside at Fort Canning Park. An awesome venue to watch a movie!

 

 

 

 

Of course, we ate lots of delicious food here too, from dim sum to hawker stall favorites to fresh fish from the market. Singapore does do food well! We went to Telok Ayer hawker for the first time, and while probably the prettiest hawker in the city, it definitely caters more toward the tourist/working crowd since it's downtown. A bit more pricey and food quality not quite as good as other hawkers. We love our local hawker, but it's more of a lunch place than a dinner place. Only a handful are open at dinner time.

 

 

Thanks for coming to visit, Grandma and Grandpa! We had a great time with you and look forward to seeing you again in New Zealand soon!
