Holiday Weekend in Singapore

A few weekends ago was a long holiday weekend for most people, as Tuesday was a holiday. We debated making a trip somewhere but discovered flights are soooo much more expensive on holidays, so we decided to do some Singapore exploring instead.

First up was the zoo. Included in our wildlife pass, like the Bird Park, this will be one we return to often! It is a very “wild” zoo, monkeys and orangutans have free range, so you get to see them in the trees right next to you! We also encountered snakes and monitor lizards on the paths, that we think just live in the vegetation along the paths. I definitely don’t think this kind of zoo would fly in the US., but it’s pretty awesome. We watching the sea lion show which was very entertaining and checked out the splash pad. Such a great way to cool down in the middle of the trip! Can’t wait to go back!

 

 

 

The next day we went to Gardens by the Bay again to check out a children’s festival. It was not as exciting as we thought it might be, so good thing the splash pad was there! Lunch followed at Satay by the Bay. Yum! Emmeline is doing such a good job trying new foods, and loving most of them (especially the fresh squeezed juices).

 

 

Nick went to work Monday since it was a quiet day, and we had playgroup in the morning. That night, though, we got our first babysitter and had a date night! Delicious Peranakan food (some of the original culture in Singapore, basically a mix of Chinese and Malay), and a few drinks in our neighborhood. There are so many great restaurants and cafes in our neighborhood; I can’t wait to try out more!

 

 

Tuesday was Vesak Day, a Buddist holiday, which was a nice way to break up the week. We spent the beautiful morning swimming at our condo. Although it rained a bit in the afternoon, we drove to Sentosa to check out the Palawan Pirate Ship. Basically like a mini waterpark for free! Emmeline was a bit unsure at first, sticking to the water features where she could play with her buckets. I eventually convinced her to go down the small water slide with me and from there, it was non stop slides! Her favorite was the blue twisting one. We will definitely return again, but probably would the grandparents since it helps to have an extra adult to cover each kid here!

 

  

Starting to feel like we know our way around Singapore a bit and have seen some of the "sights"!
