The Journey Begins...with 37 hours of travel
Well, we arrived in Singapore! It was a very long travel "day", but we all arrived relatively unscathed!
A 3 hour car ride, 3 plane rides (including a 17 hour one), two airport lounges, and a taxi eventually led us to our temporary apartment. Here's what we learned in the long travel day:
-It takes Emmeline about 13 hours of awake time before she'll eventually pass out from pure exhaustion. Despite our efforts to get her to nap in the Houston lounge and the flight to LAX, she didn't fall asleep until right before landing in LAX. Then she slept most of the time in that lounge and essentially sleep walked onto the Singapore flight. We've never seen her so out!
-17 hours is a long flight with two kids. It actually wouldn't have been horrible if it were just Nick and I, but Emmeline woke up with 10 hours remaining (next time, gotta keep her up till this flight), which didn't quite reach the magic 13 hour mark for her to sleep again. So, no naps and a limited attention span meant we had to work hard to keep her entertained (mostly Dad). She did well overall, but she was stir crazy by the end. I wish I had taken a picture of the chaos in our seats before picking it up! Corabelle slept a lot, but also nursed every 2 hours. Needless to say, Nick and I didn't sleep a whole lot despite those glorious lay-flat beds!
-People are eager to let you through security when you have a tantruming toddler and a crying baby. They didn't even pull breastmilk aside for additional screening like they normally do! 😂
-Thank goodness for business class! Not sure how we would have survived otherwise! Emmeline was a big fan of the food, although she requested tomato soup on every flight, I think!
All in all, not horrible! We survived, all of our luggage arrived, and we are settling in and adjusting to the time zone, heat, and crazy new life here!
